A root canal saves your natural tooth.

Chances are when you go see a North Dallas endodontist; you’re in pain. Root canal pain can be debilitating, but it doesn’t last forever. Endodontists are dental specialists who focus solely on root canal treatment and consequently, the inner soft-tissue part of your tooth, the pulp. Their specialized training means that they are highly equipped and qualified to treat and save your tooth while getting you out of pain.

When you hear the term “North Dallas root canal,” there are two things your dentist may be referring to the actual inner part of your tooth, the root canal, or root canal treatment. Root canal treatment is often associated with pain because when you need one, the inner soft tissue part of your tooth is infected and inflamed. Infection and pain work together, but treatment relieves pressure and inflammation.

Endodontic treatment, or root canal treatment, is intended to save your natural teeth. If your dentist tells you that you need a root canal, that means that keeping your natural tooth is possible—and you’ll be out of pain soon!

Root Canal Symptoms

Pain is one of the most reliable symptoms of needing a root canal. However, in some instances, you may not experience any symptoms. Your dentist will be able to tell when you are in need of a root canal.

Symptoms you might experience when you need a root canal treatment:

  • Severe pain
  • Sensitivity
  • Pain and swelling of your gums
  • Tenderness to touch and chewing
  • Darkening of your teeth

Root Canal Causes

The inner part of a tooth is made up of pulp, the soft tissue inside your tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels, and root canals, the part of the pulp cavity that goes through the root of your tooth. When the pulp of your tooth becomes infected or swollen, you will need root canal treatment. Any infection or inflammation of the pulp will cause pain.

  • Decay: Untreated tooth decay can lead to more severe infection. Consequently, if tooth decay is left untreated, the decline can reach your pulp and infect the living tissue in your root canals and lead to an abscess or other serious infections. If decay has reached your root canal, your endodontist will go into the inner part of your tooth and remove the decayed material from your root canals before sanitizing the area, thereby getting rid of all of the infected tissue.
  • Damage: If your tooth is severely damaged or cracked, it leaves the inner part of your tooth susceptible to infection and further damage. Any damage to your pulp can potentially necessitate endodontic treatment.

Root Canal Pain

The root canal itself is capable of causing great pain when infected or inflamed. No matter how you got to the point of needing root canal treatment, you’re likely experiencing pain. Often, it causes severe, debilitating pain. If your pain is impacting your ability to live your life the way you want, you may need endodontic treatment.

During your procedure, you will not feel any pain because your endodontist will numb your tooth.

Following your procedure, your tooth may be sensitive for a few days, but this should subside. If you feel any severe pain after your treatment, call us immediately. You should no longer be in pain!

Pain associated with needing a root canal is infamous. However, with proper endodontic treatment, you won’t be in pain much longer!
